10 Days Chengdu/Lhasa/Shigatse

Day 1 
Arrive / Chengdu

On arrival, transfer to the 4 star Amara Hotel for your overnight accommodation.

Day 2
Chendu / Lhasa  (B/L/D)

Day free, until you transfer to Chengdu Airport for your flight to Lhasa. On arrival, transfer to the Tibet Hotel for your three nights stay. Your first day in Lhasa is at a leisurely pace to allow you to adjust to the high altitude on the "roof of the world".

Day 3 
Lhasa  (B/L/D)

Today's city tour will take you to the amazing Potala Palace, the Barkhor Street,and the the  Johkang Temple

The Potala Palace -- Located on the Red Hill of Lhasa, it is the symbol of the city, known to the world for its grand constructions, elegant buildings, exquisite artworks and pious religious atmosphere.

The Barkhor Street -- Located in the old area of Lhasa City, Tibet, Barkhor Street is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the Tibetan people are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, this street is also a must-see place for the tourists.

Johkang Temple -- Included on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2000 as part of the Potala Palace , the Jokhang Temple is located in central Lhasa in Tibet. With an area of 25,100 square meters (about six acres), it is the ultimate pilgrimage destination for Tibetan Pilgrims.

Day 4 
Lhasa  (B/L/D)

Today you will visit the Sera Monasteryfamous for its Buddhist statues and paintings, the Tibetan Medical Center and a carpet factory

The Sera Monastery -- it is dedicated to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat Sect, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Tsong Khapa. Jamchen Chojey, one of Tsong Khapa's disciples built the monastery in 1419 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when the monastery was built.

Day 5 
Lhasa / Shigatse (B/L/D)

Travel by coach over spectacular mountain passes to Shigatse. On the way you will pass by picturesque Yamdrok Lake and visit the Palkhor Monastery at Gyantse. Stay overnight at the Shigatse Hotel.

Yamdrok Yumtso (or Yamdrok-tso) -- it is one of the three holiest lakes in Tibet, lies at Nhagartse, located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) to the southwest of Lhasa.

Day 6 
Shigatse / Lhasa (B/L/D)

Morning visit to the 15th century Tashilhunpo Monastery, traditional seat of the Panchen Lama.  Return to Lhasa by coach in the afternoon, via the new Friendship Highway. Stay at the Tibet Hotel for two more nights.

Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the Six Big Monasteries of Gelugpa (or Yellow Hat Sect) in Tibet. Also called the Heap of Glory, the monastery is located at the foot of Drolmari (Tara's Mountain), Shigatse. Founded by the First Dailai Lama in 1447, the monastery's structure was expanded by the Fourth and successive Panchen Lamas. Tashilhunpo Monastery covers an area of nearly 300,000 square meters (3,229,279 sq. ft.).

Day 7 
Lhasa  (B/L/D)

Today you will visit the Drepung Monastery (one of the world largest monasteries) and Norbulinka, the former Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama.

The Drepung Monastery -- It is considered one of the 'Three Great Monasteries' (the other two are the Ganden Monastery and the Sera Monastery. Covering an area of 250,000 square meters (299,007 square yards), it held 7,700 monks in total and possessed 141 fazendas and 540 pastures in its heyday, and is the largest-scale monastery among the ones of the same kind.

Norbulingka -- meaning 'Treasure Park' in Tibetan, is situated in the western suburb of Lhasa City, at the bank of the Kyichu River, about one km (about 0.6 mile) southwest of Potala Palace. The garden covers an area of 360,000 square meters (about 430,000 square yards), with 374 rooms inside. It is the biggest man-made garden in Tibet Autonomous Region.

Day 8  
Lhasa / Chengdu  (B/L/D)

Morning transfer to Lhasa Airport for your return flight to Chengdu. On arrival you will visit the historic thatched Tang Dynasty, Du Fu Cottage and the Wuhou Temple, en-route to the 4 star Amara Hotel for your two nights stay.

Wuhou Memorial Temple -- It was built in the 6th century in memory of the Emperor Liu Bei and the Prime Minister Zhuge Liang of the Shu Kingdom.
 

Day 9 
Chengdu  / Wolong / Bifengxia / Chengdu(B/L/D)

Drive to Bifengxia Panda Reserve Base which is the new home of Pandas immigrated from the Wolong Panda Reserve. Spend half day visiting and playing with the lovely pandas here and transfer back to Chengdu in the late afternoon.

Tomb of Wangjian -- Also called the Yong Mausoleum, the tomb is known for its architecture and exquisite art of stone inscription. The stone carvings of musicians and dancers in the coffin are valuable cultural relics for studying the music of Sui and Tang Dynasties.

Sanxingdui Museum -- Situated in the Sanxing Village, about 11 kilometers from the west of Guanghan City. A large number of cultural relics discovered in Sanxingdui Site prove that this place was once the political, economic and cultural center of the ancient Shu Kingdom (the old name for Sichuan), such as tools for production, life utensils, bronzes, potteries, old city wall and relics of residence. Its archeological discovery displays the agricultural civilization of the Shu Kingdom dating back to 5,000 BC and 3,000 BC.

Day 10 
Chengdu / Exit (B)

After breakfast, transfer to Chengdu Airport for your return flights.
