Either Beijing or Shanghai can be ok. If you are traveling in Beijing, it is suggeste to stay around Wangfujing area, which is very close to the local well-known Wafujing Pedestrian. You can also walk to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City for visiting. The transportation nearby is very convenient to reach the palces of interest. For your kids, you can take them to Happy Valley, World Park, Aquarium or Beijing Zoo for fun. If Shanghai can be ok, it is suggested to stay near the Bund, convenient for fun, buying and visiting.

Map of China Provinces & Cities 2014-08-04 10:18:40

About:Map of China Provinces & Cities Can you turn the pynyin into Chinese characters please?

It is not always entirely accurate, but I use Google translate. If you type in your English word or phrase, [most long sentences are not accurate] You will get the Chinese characters in the opposite side. Below that, is the pinyin. There is also a button you can press, and a female Chinese voice, will speak the pinyin words, so you get the correct pronunciation. A problem does arise if you are in Southern China, as the translation is in either Traditional or Mandarin [Simplified Chinese] which is spoken in the North. But in the South, they find it hard to understand both the characters and the pinyin, as they tend to speak Canton. Also, with so many dialects, it is difficult to even get the right pinyin, as I believe there are 5 versions of it.

from beijing to houhot and dunhuang I plan to visit beijing for , then to Honhot and Dunhuang , please advice. Thank you.

Direct trains and flights between Beijing and Hohhot are available. From Hohhot to Dunhuang, you can reach by transfering in Xian by air. Or take a train to Lanzhu and then transfer to another train to get there, which way takes much more time!

About:China Map how long does it take from beijing to gaungzhou by train or bus?

8 to 10 hours by high speed train, 21 to 22 hours by T trains. I am afraid there is no long distance bus between Beijing and Guangzhou.
